Starting FT in July but looking to get an apartment in NYC at the end of May/early June. Found a place I really like the East Village but the only problem is that it’s almost a 40 minute commute to the office. Love the location and everything about the unit but it’s just a little out the way from everything. Is it worth it or will I regret the commute?

I have done 40 minutes commutes. You will 100% regret this decision
Would you do 40min as opposed to 20/10min commute if it meant you saved £1.6k (2.1k USD) a month
Not original commentor but I think you just need to find cheaper housing closer to your office. Maybe split with 2-3 other people.
For better or worse, as a 1st year, you will not be spending much time at your apartment so no need to optimize for amenities, etc.
I'm lucky enough to walk to work and it's saved me more than I realize. Those really late nights where you're trying to figure out how to get home doesn't matter when you can walk 10 minutes and get home. I would highly advise you to try and get something that's like a 20 min walk. It's nice to get some air before getting to the trenches.
Are your Ubers not comped?
40 mins is fine for VP and up. Average MD commute is probably an hour. But if you need an extra 30 mins of sleep a day because you're working late, and 30 minutes is nothing to be sniffed at, try to keep your commute to ~20 mins as a junior
Also 40 mins on Metro North =/= 40 mins on subway. I despised my subway commute

I'm struggling to understand how the east village is a 40 minute commute from anywhere in Midtown/Fidi.
Apartment was in alphabet city (avenue D). I timed it door to door and it was 37 minutes. Had to walk almost 20 minutes to Astor Pl and then subway uptown.
Do not live in alphabet city as a new analyst. There are several more lively neighborhoods closer to the office. Spend the extra money for a shorter commute.
