A racist was just elected to state congress

Dan Johnson has been elected to the house of representatives from the district 49 in Kentucky. Johnson is known for provocative posts on Facebook that some would consider racist: he has posted multiple pictures depicting the Obamas as chimpanzees and monkeys. He has posted comments essentially saying Abraham Lincoln didn't save the union but, rather, he subjugated it because it wasn't a willing union (like a marriage): he ends with "The south will rise again" - a classic hate group slogan. Here are his thoughts on muslims: Allah sucks. Mohammed sucks. Islam sucks. Any of you Hadji’s have an issue with me saying this, PM me and I’ll gladly give you my address. You can come visit me, where I promise I will KILL YOU in my front yard!! You guys have thoughts on this? Whether or not you consider Trump racist (I don't, I just consider him an opportunist) it is clear that white supremacists were behind him and now feel empowered by his election. Has he opened up a Pandora's box? Is this just the beginning? Thoughts appreciated.

I don't think this is the first time the US has had racists in Congress.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

It seems like the election surprise came about, in part, because a lot of America has been living in an echo chamber bubble and perceiving broad swathes of the rest of the country as unwashed ignorant racists.

If you want to change things going forward, think less about speaking the language of your echo chamber bubble (eg appealing to preconceptions and bias of fellow bubble dwellers in their language and code), think more about thinking beyond the bubble, reaching out etc.

That doesn't mean adopting the thinking of other bubbles. But it does mean less shrieking within the confines of our own bubble.

what is borderline about this? Really dude people have to chill with this "every time someone mentions race they are a SJW" nonsense. I pretty much just go about my day and I'm the opposite of someone you would think needs a "safe space" or something like that. When an elected official holds OBVIOUSLY (lol @ borderline) racist views I think it is worth discussing whether it is a trend or an aberration. Sorry if you're triggered by that.
