Accepted a job at a tech company, starts mid Q1 2020, worried about possible offer cancelation

hi guys

so im a senior at college right now, and i accepted a role at a tech company (FAANG) for my first job

i graduate this semester, and have a bit over a year from now before i start the role

my parents are a bit worried about the length of time between now and starting the job, and if a downturn in the market in Q3-Q4 2019 could lead to my offer being rescinded after the fact

they'd prefer i continue to apply to jobs as a backup, but not sure if that's needed (this job is my top choice by far, so i wouldn't be applying to improve the role at all)

i wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on this, or a guess as to the probability this would be needed? has this happened to any of you/anyone you know?

FAANG will not rescind their offer...they have more cash than anybody (if you said Tesla, then i'd be worried). You could ask to start early if you want...or you could look for a "temporary" job elsewhere in the meantime...which you plan to quit from when you start at the FAANG.

They are probably trying to give you 6 months to travel before you start working...."altruistic" in their eyes....but depending on your situation, this might not be possible. However, if you can afford to go travel in southeast asia for 4-5 months (can be done very cheaply if you try...living like a local on less than 2k/month)... or if you want to teach english abroad....this is the perfect time to do it.

just google it...you're welcome
