Actually how hard is it to get into IB?
I am curious as to how hard it really is to get into investment banking at a BB/MM.
Consider: Brown Econ Major GPA: 3.8
How hard would it be for someone with the education above to get a FT offer in IBD?
I am curious because I know for sure I want to do IB, hence I want to major in economics/finance. However, my parents advised me to pursue a degree in engineering so I won't end up unemployed. Their reasoning makes perfect sense; if I do pursue a degree in economics and I don't get a job, I'm pretty much screwed.
So, how hard is it to get into IB?
most of the times it is easy to break in if you follow the process below - if your a freshman ur chances are good, if your a junior w/o an summer internship then its almost impossible
freshman finance clubs at top 25 school-> sophmore internship at (f500 fp&a, boutique ibank, bulge braket sophmore programs, consulting firm, auditing company, i.e. somewhere reputable) -> junior ib internship -> return offer
To add: Most importantly, make sure you have a solid grasp on when to use "your" and "you're."
also situational awareness is important, i.e. focusing on grammar on a forum vs a formal letter
If you graduate with a 3.8 and and have decent internships, and network, you should be able to get a job in IB from Brown.
What year are you?
Can you add anything a bit more accounting/finance/analytics as a major or minor to Econ at Brown?
