Additional device question? (Surface or iPad?)

I'm a hardcore Android fan (Replaced my Essential PH-1 with a Pixel 6-Yes, it's Coral, not Not doing the 7) And have been a Windows kid since 3.1.

I'm dating an artist who has leaned a little apple, (has an iPhone 11 Pro) but loves my old Surface Pro 6.  I've got an ancient beastly desktop/server that at about a decade minus the graphics card is about as powerful as my $4000 work laptop.  The place is set up as 100% Amazon smart-home

Do I buy an iPad air that I can't do IT for or a Surface Go 3?  Assume it'll be the SO's primary non-phone device.
