Advice for young and restless?
I'm 18 and going to Duke this fall as an undergraduate. I want to work in investment banking in the future. How should I spend my summer?
Should I take a computer science class at a nearby university? Or try to get in internship locally (I live in southern CT)?
You should spend your summer enjoying your free time. Get a summer job if you want/need one (I always enjoyed working over the summer) and hang out with your friends. You are 18, don't stress it.
Great advice. I'm surprised to see kids graduating high school stressing over internships and becoming a banker or hedgie.
For the love of all that's good and holy, have fun. You're 18. Party it up with your high school friends, it's the last time you'll be together like this. Be the top dog for the last time for a while. And just relax. There will be plenty of time to think about internships, getting into an ultra competitive career and working your tail off for another 40 years. Just enjoy life and being young.
Optimally get a job that you can spin into relevant experience, or just get a job (everybody needs extra cash)
