Almost died, puts things into perspective

Almost died yesterday in a car crash. Was going 60 on a bridge and this idiot makes a 2 lane switch swiping over. Thanks to quick reflexes I swerved and accelerated out of they way, but lost control of the car trying to over correct. The idiot ends up hitting the guy behind me almost sending the car off the bridge.

Its experience like these that make me realize that all this over-achieving wall street stuff is not All-Important. Just a small aspect, a small sliver of one's life. Near death experiences, I believe, are extremely beneficial, well... if you are lucky enough to survive them.

Brings you straight back to reality pretty damn fast. It makes you really value your time and think whats worth worrying about. I wouldn't even be on WSO today if not for God's grace or luck. If I hadn't reacted fast enough...no more ibanking!!

Doesn't mean I'm letting go of my career ambitions, but I do realize that there are more important aspects of life.

Thanks for sharing man. I just found out my high school friend committed suicide because his girl dumped him. That put my life in perspective as well.

Sorry about your friend, man.

There was a guy in my High School who committed suicide after his girlfriend wouldn't respond to any of his repeated calls (her phone was dead). It was the summer before his Senior year, so I was an incoming HS Freshman at the time. I didn't really understand it until I was the same age as he was when he died and actually thought about what it would be like for my friends and family if I just killed myself.

I've had like four near-death experiences and actually died once (hooray for defibrillators); didn't really change anything. Except now, I have half a million in hospital debt I don't intend to pay off.

Don't know what a near-death experience could change. I live every day how I see fit. So what else is there?

I guess if you already live like that everyday then sweet! most people don't and lose touch of valuing basic things. takes a moment like this to bring you back

Skiing, snowboarding, getting hit by a car cycling, and driving.

The only bad one was the last time. I was passed out for a while before being found and vomited into my lungs. Has aspiratory pneumonia, kidney/liver/gall bladder failure, and a collapsed lung. Woke up handcuffed to a hospital bed with a tube down my throat. I later realized that I had another in my urethra, which was a fun realization, which they had to re-adjust like five times with no anesthetic because my blood pressure was too low.

I had a near death experience myself almost 1 year ago, July 13th (Friday)..perspective.. now I understand the world, how the world got to be so crazy, and my place in it couldn't be more clear. Stay safe.
