Am I diversity?

If I look like a typical US-Italian white guy but am actually from a very white Latin country (Chile, Argentina, Uruguay), do I fall under the straight white male bucket?

I've shown up to DEI events in college and I was the only white person there (most were either black or darker skin latinos). I feel so out of place grouping myself in these programs and taking advantage of the benefits.

Do companies care about appearance when recruiting for DEI hires? I'm sure they don't want white people like myself taking those spots.

If your name is Latino-like. Then you are considered Latino. If you speak fluently and are assimilated to a different culture, then this is reinforced even more.

Looks are deceiving. Latin america is colorist so it's easy to fall in the imposter bucket, but you are still one of them. My closest friend is the most mexican person I know but looks like Canelo Alvarez (Irish). It's all relative.

eh, tbh I have 0 ties with Spain or any Hispanic country and I went through diversity programs and got an offer. Cant speak spanish or have a spanish name either.
