Career Resources
I believe in being very careful about ambition.
It is good to be ambitious for the people around you.
It is good to be ambitious for what you create and the work you plan to do.
It is good to be somewhat ambitious for yourself, but only as much as the two other ambitions. And it's good to remember all of the things on the list of life's priorities that rank above money. It is good to remember how much you have and how lucky you are.
Sometimes I get nervous when people rant about ambition or bare it a little too much.
For the record, my ambition is financial security, a 60 acre farm on Lake Michigan, a '66 Mustang GT Convertible (brick red), and hang gliding every day. If I can get that, I'm happy. I do not need a private island, although I have seen an island potato farm in Lake Huron go up for sale at a reasonable price. (Unfortunately it will be hard to drive my Mustang on the island.)
