Anyone here have Tinnitus?
Just random but does anyone here have Tinnitus that is permanent? If so would love to ask
1) How long have you had it for?
2) Cause?
3) How do you manage/cope?

I personally try to listen to music or have white background noise.
Although currently, it sucks because my team is judgemental - "if you listen to music, you are not truly focusing".
I also use these methods when i have trouble.
Mine came from military years ago though, and my brain has adapted to i guess cope with it more.
Welp atleast I have comfort knowing that I am not the only intern in IB that has Tinnitus and I also listen to music haha but I told him "I have Tinnitus" and he was supportive since it is a small boutique IB.
Yes and unfortunately there is no effective cure. It’s only really noticeable in the absence of any other noise though. I don’t play my music as loud as I used to and try to avoid really loud concerts. Sounds very boomer, but I value my long term hearing
How long have you had it for if you don't mind me asking and are you able to still work and not focus on it?
1) 15+ years, only rings in my left ear
2) Ruptured my ear drum while surfing
3) Usually I dont even notice most of the time. Its only prevalent when its quiet. I usually have airpods in playing music on low volume so that I can still hear people around me if needed
Took a hard knee to the ear playing rugby 9 years ago. Got knocked out.
Has been ringing ever since. It can actually be quite disheartening at times but I’ve learned to always have a fan running in the background or focusing on my breath when it gets bad.
Hang in there. Eventually, 95% of the time you won’t know it’s there.
Thank you for the story and positive advice. Is it in both ears and has it gotten worse?
No it’s gotten just slightly better. Just my right ear.
I did but it got so much better. First, no more airpods, sorry but it has to go. The ear wasn't created to have noise blasted so close to the ear drum for multiple hours every day. Alcohol for me made it worse, like twice as worse. Really have to de-stress, and not increase your cortisone levels. All of these improvements took like 1 year for me to see any improvement. Its a long journey for sure and pretty scary, but try to be positive and know you won't see results day by day, but over months and it will most like be 3 steps forward, and two steps back. You will be fine bro.
1. 8-10 years, maybe more
2. I shot guns a lot as a kid and only wore hearing protection about half the time, even though my dad has bitched about how bad his hearing is (due to shooting without protection for 30+ years) for as long as i can remember
3. I don't notice it most of the time and honestly can't distinctly remember what the sound of silence without ringing is like. once a month or so the ringing gets crazy loud and slightly painful out of nowhere but goes away within a couple minutes.
Shooting without protection is an absolute nightmare jfc.. can't imagine doing that your entire life. His hearing must be nearly entirely gone depending on the frequency he would shoot at... though something tells me that someone shooting without protection is likely shooting pretty often lol
He only uses his guns for hunting a couple times a year nowadays but still, it baffled me how we would come home from shooting and he seemed completely unbothered by the ringing that doesn't go away for at least the rest of the night.
I get it sometimes. It’s annoying but goes away. Due to loud music. Sometimes it is extremely loud in one ear and tones down in 15-30 sec.
