Anyone making it on 50k-60k in Manhattan?
Anyone making it on 50-60k in Manhattan? I have a job offer for something in this range, and am a little concerned I may not be able to live this. I'm not concerned about saving because I only plan to do it for 1-2 years, and then move on to something a bit higher (90k+). Is it livable?
Are you able to go out 1-2 days a week, pay alright for dates, etc.? Hopefully looking too find an apartment around $1400 rent, take the subway as much as possible instead of Ubers, etc. How are you guys making it? Any pro tips to save money?
Yes it's doable, 60k would make it easier than 50k, but your main expenses are rent and food and booze. For your rent best bet would be to get roomates, find a 2-bed or 3-bed and then learn to cook of course.
Just for some perspective, the median income in manhattan is 66k.
if you venture outside of manhattan and consider commuting from brooklyn or queens, there are 1 bedrooms out there that can go as low as $600-800 a month. the tradeoff would be a 40min-1hr commute, but plenty of people who work in manhattan do that to save money on rent.
find a 1 bedroom apartment with a decent sized common area. Pay to have a wall put up to turn it into a 1 bedroom flex 2. Get a roommate.
