My roommates and I have one, I think it's pretty convenient. The extent we use it for is Netflix, Hulu and HBO mostly, and airplay is a also cool feature that comes in handy sometimes. Typing on it can be annoying, but I don't really have any other complaints.
Would you buy it again?
Probably not considering how many other cheaper options and ways to stream there are (one way being what WheyOfLife suggested below)
Not sure if this is of any interest to any one, but you can buy an Amazon fire stick preinstalled with a program called Kodi (or get it for $20 cheaper and install Kodi yourself, it takes 10 minutes). Kodi itself is free and you can get it on your computers/phones for free.
It has pretty much everything you could want. It uploads new episodes within 3 hours and the latest movies within a couple of weeks.
I downloaded it on my laptop following
and haven't looked back since. Yes it's a game changer, no it's not a scam/virus. If you don't believe me check out the subreddit or forums, it's an incredible alternative. I may make a post on it one day.Yes, this is actually of great interest. I assume Kodi is similar to BitTorrent then in terms of legality?
Precisely.
Based on what I know, streaming copyright material is not illegal in any for and will not result in any consequences. That means that you can essentially watch whatever on Kodi without facing any issues.
Taken from one of the more reliable sources I could find on the matter:
So you can even install it on a jail broken iPhone?
https://kodi.tv/download/
Yea, I don't even think it needs to be jailbroken.
Regardless of what platform you download it on, you're gonna want to get "Config Wizard" to set up your Kodi. It installs a basic package including Exodus, the most popular program for TV and movies.
One year I bought a bunch of random crap and flipped it on Amazon & ebay a month later.
Oh yeah been there done that. Did you recoup at least?
yeah, 130 bucks total. I tried it again later -$30
If you're going to waste time, be smart about it. Get a PS4/Xbox One. The only unique feature Apple TV brings to the table is wireless screen duplication, and it's too slow for video or even music. Get a game console and nab an extra HDMI cable, and you're golden.
