Apple Will Be Our Savior

Today it was announced that Apple has bought out Drive.ai just days before it was planning on terminating its business endeavors. According to Forbes:

Drive.ai was going to announce massive layoffs and end operations on Friday. Exactly which parts of the company remain with the shift to Apple's ownership, and what happens to its 90 employees, is not yet clear.

It has been rumored for years that a handful of large tech corporations were working on their own takes on self driving cars; Much like Google's procurement of Waymo, which has become its own standalone company. Perhaps Apple's new acquirement of Drive.ai will be much the same.

What are your thoughts on these large corporations moving into spaces outside their specialty? Should Apple just continue to focus on the products in their portfolio since the creativity and innovation has dwindled after Jobs's death? Any thoughts on self driving cars in general?
