If they ventured west they tamed unknown land and likely found themselves in very violent negotiations between the government and the natives. Those immigrants are the ones whose children are now casting votes for them to be able to have a shot at life.
The immigrants this is impacting are getting on a plane to maximize their earnings potential. It’s in no way a reasonable comparison.
