Aspiring early riser with inconsistent work schedule: solutions?

I'm serious about giving the "wake up at 5am and change your life" thing a go.

However, I believe this would require some consistency in the times that one goes to sleep. Ultimately, it will be an unsuccessful endeavour if too little sleep is achieved over the long term. For the sake of argument, let's say a 5am wake-time would mean a ~10pm sleep-time.

Has anyone, other than S&T people on this forum, tried this routine?
Have you reaped the benefits, or do work and social obligations make it impossible to manage?

What time do you go to sleep?

Why have you decided to get up SO early?

Are you achieving incredible things in the early hours of the day?

Are you tired at all during the day or do you maintain full focus?

Does a spontaneous few beers wreck the momentum?

I go to sleep as soon as I get home, usually around 7. I'm studying for the GMAT, and I find the morning is when I'm most productive. I get a lot of work done and I don't feel tired during the day as long as I get 7-8 hours of sleep. I dunno if a few beers would mess you up, but once you get in a habit, you'll have trouble staying awake past 9:00pm

I did 11pm-5am wake up everyday for my internship this summer. I definitely enjoyed it, and plan to continue once I am back in my own apartment for the school year. Both of my parents have similar patterns, with my father waking up at 4:30am and going to bed at 10-11pm every night, he's been doing this for like 30 years if not more. His social accomplishments include having a wife, raising a family and managing business partners and employees as a business owner.

During college so far I have found it easier to do 6am-12:30ish because my roommates would be pretty loud if I tried sleeping at 11pm.
