Backpack vs. Briefcase
Internal conflict here. I've spent the past three years at a southeastern middle-market investment bank as an analyst where I've used a backpack to carry all my items, but will soon be moving to a northeastern middle-market PE firm to start as an associate. Given that I'm no longer fresh out of college and have been in the working world for a little bit of time now, I'm contemplating whether it's worth switching to a briefcase?
Really just looking to engage a heated (informal) discussion weighing the pros and cons (i.e., functionality, appearance to seniors, etc.) of backpack users vs. briefcase users.
At a MF. Literally do not know a single person here who uses a briefcase.
I print a ton of shit... backpack for me
If by briefcase you mean a nice leather shoulder bag / laptop bag or something, I only really see principals and above carry those, and only a few at that.
Backpack is just more functional for all purposes.
I just got this a week ago to replace my backpack and it's been really nice to use / looks more professional than a backpack in my opinion.

I agree it looks better, also doesn't wrinkle shirt/suit
My brother in christ that is a purse
ah sheeee
I hate myself for it bc I look like such a scrub but backpacks are just so much more convenient
I use a leather laptop bag. Didn’t like feeling that backpacks were wrinkling the back of my shirt. Plus I think backpacks look a little goofy if you’re ever wearing a jacket or suit.
At the end of the day though it really doesn’t matter at all as long as it looks somewhat professional.
Worst of both worlds. Gym bag. But I gotta carry my stuff
Lots of comments here and he didn't even say what he wanted to carry in the backpack/briefcase. What does "all my items" mean? A computer / or no computer?
I like a backpack overall and have 2 fancy Milanese briefcases for important meetings. One black one tan.

Briefcase. Backpack is so so lame and it will damage your brioni suits.
Backpacks are for students.
Get yourself a nice leather messenger bag.
nylon (or whatever) branded laptop case. the secret is a sailcloth wallet though. fuck leather.
I bought 2 nylon ones recently. I do not need leather
I use a nice backpack and IDGAF what anyone thinks.
Just choose whatever you prefer. No one cares. The briefcase looks nicer, but a backpack is more comfortable.
