Bathtub Water Chiller

Why doesn’t this exist? Ice baths are all the rage and have proven to be highly beneficial to one’s physical and mental health, including massive amounts of dopamine following the ice bath.

Why don’t bathtub coolers exist? Seems like it could be engineered. It would be nice to just get an ice bath in the comfort of one’s own home and bathroom and then a nice hot reward shower.

Yo, there's this tray in your freezer that's full of little solid chunks.

Put that shit in your bathtub. Shit's wild.

thank me later

Yo, according to college level physics and thermodynamics, that is not enough ice.

thank me later

One of my portcos is an engineering company. I could present this idea on our weekly call. Actually would probably just email the lead engineer to see if this is worth pursuing.

Outdoor version, but I think it only insulates and doesn't cool.

"Our ice bath is a giant insulated cool bag that keeps your water cold. After long-term testing using cold tap water, we found you don't even need to add ice, as it's still cold enough to get the benefits from cold water therapy at 15°C degrees and below."

"The pathogenesis of metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes are characterized by a progressive dysregulation in energy partitioning, often leading to end-organ complications. One emerging approach proposed to target this metabolic dysregulation is the application of mild cold exposure. In healthy individuals, cold exposure can increase energy expenditure and whole body glucose and fatty acid utilization. Repeated exposures can lower fasting glucose and insulin levels and improve dietary fatty acid handling, even in healthy individuals."

Haha.  You think that people who don't have the willpower to put down the fork for five seconds, will have the determination to plunge themselves into a freezing cold pool every day?

Also, if this is a troll post, it's one of the better ones I've ever seen on this site.  My guess is, among the teenagers and finance try-hards on this site, very few people are interested in learning, let alone have the interest to open a link which might challenge their preconceived views, but you did read at least the summary of the study you posted, right?  Perhaps there is more to this in the body of the study, but to quote (emphasis mine):

  • Exercise led to the infiltration of inflammatory cells, with increased mRNA expression of pro‐inflammatory cytokines and neurotrophins, and the subcellular translocation of heat shock proteins in muscle. These responses did not differ significantly between cold water immersion and active recovery.

  • Our results suggest that cold water immersion is no more effective than active recovery for minimizing the inflammatory and stress responses in muscle after resistance exercise.

Interesting idea but the problem is you gotta fill the bathtub everyday as opposed to an outdoor tub that doesn't need to be filled daily. Don't think people have the time to wait for the bath tub to get filled every morning. Probably explains why this is not a thing. Maybe it's worth a try tho

I actually think the bathtub needs to be filled before you go to sleep and then the water would run through a machine cooling it overnight. It would take time.

I've always wanted a
ice bath bucket cooler! It's a bummer they're not more common. I guess I'll stick to my inflatable pool for now, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for future innovation.
