Best Broker for Longer Term Investors

What is the best broker for someone looking to do longer term investing. I have about 50k I want to put in the markets. I want access to a decent selection of mutual funds/etfs, but I want solid research and charting tools as well in case I decide to do a bit of day trading. It would be nice to have access to forex as well.

Thanks

Motif, Loyal3 and TD are excellent online brokers. I also use OptionHouse since they have very competitive pricing.

They're hiking prices. We're grandfathered in.

Which one is hiking price? For motif you can buy up to 30 stocks in a motif for only $9.95/trade, around 33 cents per stock.

OptionsHouse. They're merging with some other company. I stopped reading the email after I read that my rates won't change.

IB if you're doing single stock investing. I also prefer IB for options but that's just me. Haven't tried their FX. Their execution is supposedly fantastic (from friends experience). Apparently you'll get filled between bid/ask a decent amount if that matters to you.

Motif if you're looking at making your own index. Wouldn't recommend using for anything but the most set+forget. If you cut one name from your index you pay 10 bucks, you're probably cheaper with IB if you do that a few times.

ETFC or AMTD if you're looking at trading penny stocks for the flat rate. IB won't flatrate you on them, their sales people will tell you about you saving through their execution.

I have no clue about getting research/charting tools, sorry
