Miyagi in McLean, Va has the best sushi I've ever had, hands down. The vibe...eeeeehhhh, this place is hole-in-the-wall that is about food.
Piggybacking off this, Tachibana in McLean has some really high quality fish. Go for the sashimi/sushi, not the rolls. They'll tell you where all of the fish is sourced that day. Good if you're not looking to pay for Michelin Star sushi at Sushi Taro.

Very good overall. I prefer their sushi to their main dishes but both are great
Second on Taro. I was going to recommend Makoto in the Palisades but I just saw that it closed last year. I'd also recommend checking out http://sushiogawa.com/</a">Sushi Ogawa in upper Dupont, I've heard good things about their omikase.
