You have to keep in mind there will probably be some restrictions based on whether this is banking or trading, the company, group, clients. So some single name stocks may be out, and your time horizon may be effected.
"Target city"? -- What the fuck?
Just invest in some low cost mutual funds and/or CDs. Hopefully, you can figure out some basic investing strategies elsewhere and don't rely on this forum for your future.
Come on, surely you know of the 'Target City', the kind of city that makes you more appealing to the BB countries.

EDIT: To actually help. What does your student debt situation look like, in more detail. Depending on the rates, it might make sense to blow a hole in that. If they're not too bad, just go with a few different Index Funds.
If your student loans are above 5% id try and put most of the money towards that because its not guaranteed you will make returns that outpace the interest collecting on your debt.

Definitely a risky move, you don't have to be a genius to figure that out. Not necessarily the worst investment ever.
