Biology + Business Development/Client Relation background - How to break into finance?
I graduated from McGill University with an undergrad in Anatomy and Cell Biology (3.5/4.0 GPA) and a Master of Science in Molecular Biology (4.0/4.0 GPA). I then moved to England where I worked as an IT recruitment consultant for a year and an Account Manager for a start-up with clients mostly located in France. When I moved back to Canada I took a job as a consultant for a HR Consulting start-up where I specialized in business development and client relations with Fortune 500 to mid-size clients.
The last 2.5 years were very exploratory in terms of figuring out what I wanted to do. I always had an interest for investment and I would like to break into equity research and blend it with my biology studies (biotech, pharma, healthcare).
It seems like the MSF is the right route for that. However, a MBA might also be a possibility but it seems to be very general and not finance focused enough. I also looked into possibilities of working for a management consulting firm (Bain&Company, McKinsey, etc) which also seems like a path where one could break into ER after a few years of it).
My plan so far is this: I have a possibility to be moving to Dallas in the next year and I was considering the MSF at UT Dallas. Or applying to Bain as well as McKinsey to try to get into management consulting.
All advises are very welcome! I'm keen to figure out what the best next step is.
Thanks a lot!
Hi Cheekymonkey3434, no, I never sleep and so I can respond to any lonely threads (like this one) at all hours of the night. Impressive, I know ;-)
If we're lucky, the following pros may have something to say: @bowlerhattedbusinessman" BLNR @Aura0505"
Hope that helps.
