BofA VP killed in random NYC stabbing
Erin Piacenti was stabbed in the abdomen randomly by some NYC goblin. Police later killed the lady. Erin was only 32, just had a baby 5-months prior and died on her first day back from maternity leave.
What a senseless killing. Rest in peace, Erin Piacenti.
I’m sure there will be protests that police shouldn’t have used deadly force or some other nonsense.

I'd rather not make things political, either. The reality is, everything is political. Always has been. Ignoring it might help you feel good but it's actually the opposite of 'being a decent human'. The indifference of good men and women is another kind of evil.

Such a gross act of violence. But also regarding the video where the killer gets taken out, you're telling me 10 NYC cops couldn't immobilize her? What do we pay these people for?
Reports said tasers were deployed twice and neither worked. When she made an advance at them they shot her. No one is going to take a chance on getting stabbed.
Maybe I am naive, but why can't you shoot someone in the hand/arm to disarm them, or their leg to immobilize them? I don't feel bad because she killed someone but at the same time...really?
She already killed one person and severely injured another. At that point it is immediate compliance or death. Why do you people care so much about the life of the criminal?
I don't care about the stabber here, but the NYPD does have a questionable history of cross fire in crowded places. I'm surprised they didn't end up shooting each other because they circled around her and were absolutely pointing guns at each other. Also, Times Square is always a risky place to discharge a weapon from a bystander perspective. All to say I'm also surprised that in the 4 minutes they stood there talking to her, that no one hit this overweight 5 foot 4 inch 49 year old woman from behind and tossed her to the ground.
Every detail of this story is just heartbreaking. A tragic reminder that anything can happen anytime, anywhere, and tomorrow is never promised.

Probably the best advice some random person told me on 5th Street while walking around as a tourist was when one of these street crazies approach you to keep walking, don’t look at them, and don’t talk to them.
About two days later, I was walking with friends late at night near Penn Station and we had to walk around a big, intimidating guy talking to himself. He started following us, particularly was interested in me, saying he was going to stab me in the neck. Anyways, I kept thinking about what that guy said and mentally bracing for some physical violence, and thankfully walked away without incident.
Just want to rely the advice. I love NYC. But when you’re in a situation like that, try to avoid rather than confront.
I don’t know the facts around this woman’s stabbing. But that advice served me well my one time.
So your advice is to do nothing, cross your fingers, and hope for the best.

However, To keep it in context it should be noted that the number of NYC murders for the first nine months of this year are on track to come in at the lowest number in NYC history (source: NYPD CompStat 2.0). While that doesn’t lessen the tragedy of this poor woman’s murder one iota, it should be noted that NYC is the safest large city in the US.
