Bonus Bananas May 2, 2014
Happy Friday monkeys! I'll be filling in for Eddie for today's bonus bananas. Will it be as good? Nope. Will it be passable? Absolutely! Enjoy!
1) All Code is Bad - Learning to code? Does it suck? Don't worry, according to Peter Welch, it's all a giant bag of suck.
2) Judgemental Map of NYC - I'm sure many of you have seen this, but I love me some judgemental maps! Where do you live? With the tourists? The gawking tourists?
3) Fan Spills Beer on Date Chasing a Foul Ball - I can appreciate spilling some beer if you actually catch the foul ball...
4) Colorado Symphony Orchestra's "Weed Friendly" Concert Series - Whether or not you like the classical period, it's tough to argue that this isn't one hell of a great idea!
5) NBCUniversal Exec: Twitter Doesn't Really Work - Probably not news to many, but apparently, this wasn't readily available information to NBC. Go figure.
6) Death Penalty Error Rate Absurdly High - This is just a little terrifying. Probably best to keep your nose as clean as possible!
7) Best Hashtag Ever - #WeAreAllMonkeys.
8) Rob Ford Seriously Loves Crack - Okay, so getting caught on tape smoking smoke rock: Shame on the crackhead. Get caught on tape smoking rock again: Shame on, idk, the voters?
9) Political Correctness and Economics - This is a terrific blog post about how the PC Police aren't quite what they seem...
10) SF Looking for AirBnB Snitches - This is a bit unseemly. Given that SF is home to gun running politicians, maybe they should be focusing on that instead of AirBnB. Just my $0.02.
Video of the Week
This is absurdly badass. If I wasn't positively certain that I would die in the process, I'd absolutely jump on some Paraskiing!
RE: #6:
A) I'm not sure how statistical analysis really tells you much about wrongful conviction rates. Seems like a little bit of a stretch to me.
B) I don't know how anybody could be surprised that wrongful convictions happen. The people who are judging you are the ones who were too stupid to get out of jury duty. Have you people met the 'average person'?...it's really scary to think we trust these people with another person's life.
Re: video of the week... @"IlliniProgrammer" does that in his sleep.
Sweet. I know one or two people who are into speedgliding. That video looks pretty darned intense.
I still think that you can get about the same amount of fun in a hang glider a little more safely. We can do some pretty intense aerobatics that paragliders can't- like experiencing 3Gs in a turn or doing a loop, and you don't have to be ~3 feet from the ground for it to be exciting. (This is not me... I have done some pretty intense dives and turns but this guy is at a completely different level.)
