So, another day, another scandal here in Brazil.
This time, industries in the meatpacking sector were discovered to be participating in a bribery scheme, where payment (in cash and, alas, meat) was channeled to corrupt food inspectors to allow tainted (rotten and/or contaminated) meat to be packed and sold.
Companies involved included the listed JBS and BR Foods which supply meat and poultry to more than 100 countries.
While some countries already moved to block products from Brazil, investigations are still ongoing. The government reaction was strong (against the investigation, claiming it damages the national interests) but the meat is still allowed to be sold within the country.
What a shit show folks.
