Broken Into Car

Just had my car broken into, probably last night. One of the rear windows was smashed and the area around the ignition had been completely dismantled exposing all the wiring. Nothing was in plain sight. I live in a generally really safe place so it was sad to see this. My neighbor said they noticed someone else on our block also had the same thing happen, so it was probably the same guy going around.

Why can’t you say some intentional individual alternatively entered your vehicle? Why do you have to show your prejudicial bias against people who identify with entering a vehicle in such a manner?

You’re not intolerant, are you?

In any case, this sucks. Certain fiends will break into any car for the loose change for their next fix.

nothing was stolen, looks like they were trying to hot wire the car somehow

Again, sucks all around. Hope nothing too valuable was taken.

that's the weird thing, nothing at all was stolen. I didn't have anything in there to begin with, but everything was in the same place as when I had last left it.

Sympathetic compatriat here. Same thing happened to 'someone I know' once. They even went so far as breaking into the fuse box looking for anything. And as soon as the police arrived to investigate, couple of neighbors came forward asking if they were there about a break-in, because it happened to them too.

The Adam Carolla solution here is the best.  Just wire a kill switch into the fuel pump and flip the switch when you get out of the car.

In college I wasn't the kid with rich parents.  I had a crappy 10+ year old station wagon that looked like it was either a gypsy cab or owned by a pimp.  I parked off campus near the ghetto b/c I couldn't afford on campus parking.  One night the two cars in front of mine, and the two behind were broken into.  They left mine alone.

Years later, living uptown I was parking my first NA Miata on the Riverside Dr. Viaduct.  I got sloppy and left my fancy OBD2 reader on the dash.  Thankfully the guy just broke the window to grab it.  It was an annoying mess in January, but new junkyard windows are $40 and half an hour to install.  Had he taken a knife to the roof it would have been $400 and six hours of work.  (Roof fell apart a few years later, so I know from experience)

Point is: It sucks, but it could have always been worse.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

that does suck. It's kind of ironic because there's nicer cars than mine on my street.

There's a story about my Dad's car getting jacked on Main St. Newark (NJ) in broad daylight one Sunday while we were in a museum that easily trumps that, but I've told that one too many times at work.
