What are target schools for an entry-level job as a financial analyst in California? I've heard they typically recruit locally.

That isn’t necessarily true.. at my large west coast PE internship it’s probably probably 50% west coast 40% east coast 10% Midwest/Texas..
In order of total analysts, not necessarily prestige
Targets- Berkeley, combined Ivies, USC, Stanford Semi- UCLA, Pomona, CMC
Even out here, Wharton and Harvard kill it, Stanford can too if there is student interest..
Is there any representation from: UCSD, USD, Santa Clara, or UCSB?
