Can analysts travel on weekends ?

Hi,

I was wondering if London bankers can actually go for weekend trips abroad as first year analysts ? I will be starting at an US EB and wondering what is the general policy on travel? Is it feasible to leave Friday night and come back on Sunday (and worst case scenario work a couple hours from your hotel)? Also, what is the expense policy if you have to cancel vacations to work?

Similarly, I was wondering if analysts can take a day totally off during weekends to pursue other hobbies (sports, etc) and be unreachable during that time.

I am of course asking this within the context of regular weeks and not peak time prior to a takeover bid for a multi billion dollar deal.

Many thanks,
