Can someone help me with social media

Hey WSO,

As I sit here studying for the CFA, my head meandered from the absolutely riveting topic of bond valuation and on to thinking about how bad I am at keeping in touch with people.

When I say "bad," I mean really bad. On more than one occasion, people have gotten in touch with me just to ask if I've decided to ignore them.

This got me to thinking: how should I use LinkedIn? I have a profile with a few hundred people on it, but what are the underlying principles to succeeding in social networking for professionals?

I find it absurd to try bothering someone on that site for a job, interview, etc., and I regularly ignore people's requests to connect (especially people who I simply don't know - I don't understand why they do that).

So is there any help, special instruction, or thought on how I should better use LinkedIn? Or am I just an anti-social meathead?
