CHEESE PRICES TO DOUBLE?

From CNN: US trade officials proposed a wave of tariffs on French goods Monday as they released a report finding that a new French tax on digital services — affecting large American tech companies such as Facebook (FB) and Google — represents a barrier to trade.

The list of proposed US tariffs covers dozens of products, including cheeses, beauty products, handbags, sparkling wine and porcelainware. Roughly $2.4 billion in French products could be subject to new taxes of up to 100%, the office of the United States Trade Representative said. The public will have until early January to weigh in on the proposal...

Trump is going to make my Brie twice as expensive? Like what the actual fuck is wrong with this president. The trade war with China is already stupid enough, and now we have to start one with France and make all the yummy champagne and cheeses become 100% more expensive? Tariffs SUCK. Regardless of how you feel about Trump, his policies with respect to tariffs are completely asinine. He can pry the Brie out of my cold dead lifeless hands. What do you monkeys think? Should we start a trade war with France? Is Frances digital tax stupid? Is it weird that Emmanuel Macrons wife was his high school teacher and she’s like eighty years old? (Answer: resounding OUI)

Doesn't that just make it that much more ELITE when you drink the same bottle of Bordeaux that costs twice as much? Like who cares...if you tip 20% of the cost, you are actually helping the loser waiter that opens the bottle for you. Just think what he will do with a 100% increase in the tip for no reason. Talk about a rising tide lifting all boats!

I'll pay whatever the cost is for cheese. Cheese is not something I can stop.

This is pure leverage. Macron knows how much cheese Donny eats on those quarter pounders.

Maybe this is an opportunity for Vermont to make something other than cheddar.

Went on the factory tours of both that and Cabot cheese, those Vermonters can (if they really wanted to) be industrious

I can imagine waking up two months later and reading a headline that says " 19 year old entrepreneur hoards cheese and resells it for a 150% profit. Turns everyday household food into a 6 figure business."

Such a joy to know that those of us who enjoy french cheese will now be the ones penalized so Google and Facebook can avoid paying taxes in France (Sarcasm)

I'll also add that even though Macron's wife is way older than him, she is still better looking than a lot of american women half her age. Maybe we should encourage our triple chinned broads to go on the french diet for a while, even if its going to get a lot more expensive.
