Chicago Mayoral Election
Progressive candidate Brandon Johnson was elected over “tough on crime” Paul Vallas. Are we pretty much looking at another 4 years of Lori Lightfoot? Is Chicago doomed?

Who fucking knows. BJ seems decent, his policies on expanding after school activities for kids in high risk areas is a good idea that usually is taken as a radical move. His taxation policies are shaky but I highly doubt most residents will notice a true difference. But fuck comed and fuck xfinity.
DOn't think this will solve the issues
Lol since when is that a “radical move?” Are you completely unaware of how much Chicago has spent on after school programs going as far as to even try paying kids who simply attended school? The Freakonomics cats covered this before. Complete and utter money pit never shown to have positive results.
Heard he had a plan to tax futures / options contracts at $1 per contract. It wouldn't pass... but if it did, it would push out CBOE and CME as it would gut their business models, and further degrade the tax space.
Deal Team Six might have the straight dope on this, I'd be interested to find out.
Chicago is in deep trouble. Daley & Emmanuel did a great job of keeping it fairly safe and attracting businesses. Griffin moved Citadel to Miami due to taxes and crime.
Johnson is absolute bonkers. The guy literally thinks the solution to violent crime is throwing more money and looking at "non-prison" means of "rehabilitation." Expect crime to skyrocket under Johnson. The city already has a problem with South Side thugs going into the nice areas to commit crimes.
Piggybacking off of that, I won't be surprised if we see stories coming out about more police and other first responders leaving, making things even worse due to bad policy.
Kind of tangential, but if we see the whole tv/movie industry stop using Chicago as their setting because it's too dangerous for their crews? Then you can certainly put a fork in it and call it done.
The issue is that all the people who could've stopped Johnson from being elected voted with their feet and moved to the suburbs & some out of state. It's rough going
That and just abysmal voter turnout. I think it was below 25%.
