I like the part where they all laugh because they own our debt. Hate to boost your bubble, but if we go down in flames we're probably going to take China with us.

 

dude this is a commercial aimed at low/middle class voters whom only get their ideas from watching too much tv. this was created to provoke negative emotions against heatlhcare. although i agree that too much borrowing really builds no fundamentals in a country's production of goods for exporting (come on, can you export all the roads??), i would still be skeptical just by watching the commercial....

 

It's really a terrible idea to buy a significant portion of a nation's debt when it is denominated in a currency controlled by that nation. Also, you can't chapter 7 a country.

I would disagree about the value of roads however, infrastructure investment reduces the costs of internal businesses, making them more competitive abroad and encouraging consumption at home.
