Clubs on Linkedin

Hi all,

just wanted to see if there was a general consensus on posting investment clubs under "experience" on Linkedin. Personally, I think it looks a bit cringe but it also looks like a lot of people going to all the top firms have them listed. Thanks

My thoughts are to include it on your LinkedIn as volunteer experience so it's not mistaken as professional/paid work experience. As a university student, club experiences are a main way to differentiate yourself for internships and some clubs are usually prestiegous or difficult to get into. Most university Student Investment Funds have interview processes and manage real money ~$300k to $2m based on the funding, and gives great exposure.

I would mention any club you are fine talking to in an interview. Now, if you joined the Caligraphy club once and never again, and then mention that, yah, that's dumb. But if you took on a leadership position for the finance association, or lead the orientation for the new cohort of students, or played competitive chess or ping-pong, I'd mention all of that.

putting it under volunteer would look very weird imo. My alternative option is to list them under activities. I'm between experience & activities.
