Common Courtesy when dining out with a colleague
I recently got invited for dinner by a senior at a bank (ED/MD). As an intern, is it common courtesy to get my portion of the check or is it more polite to let them get it? On a side note, is it normal to grab food with seniors outside of the office?
Typically the senior person will request the check directly and pay the whole thing. If the waiter puts it in the middle you can offer to split to be polite and they will almost always decline and pay themselves.
Almost 100% of the time the senior will pick up the entire bill. It would be odd for them not to or even request to split it. It is likely going to get expensed anyways.
