Commute from Jersey?

I was thinking about commuting from Jersey to Manhattan. Specifically, Jersey City or Hoboken. But people would argue that it’s not worth the money saved since the days you’re leaving the office at 2, you won’t be going to sleep till at least 3, then having to make up at 7:30 just to head out at 8.

Would love to hear some opinions about this. Is that commute really that bad? Should I avoid it?

I live in Jersey City. My commute is about 35-40 minutes, so it's not bad. But I'm usually leaving the office around 5:30-6 pm every day.

It really depends how close your office is to the PATH. I wouldn't ever live in Jersey as a single guy though. Living in Manhattan is where it's at.

Yikes. Pretty much planned my first year analyst around living in Hoboken in the upper side and getting on the NJ Transit into Port Authority then taking the connecting A train up to the office

wait until Gateway construction fucks all that up for a long time

Very doable in a 9-5 job... In IB I would really recommend against it, your long commute will reaaaally wear on you when it's 3am and you need to be back at 9am. Also NYC girls do not want to date people who live in NJ.

Split an apartment with 2-3 other guys instead and plan your neighborhood so you only have to take 1 subway line. You will rarely be there so doesn't need to be luxury
