Company having party and letting me expense things?

I'm a new Analyst and my company is having a global holiday party and allowing us to expense things. I don't think anyone who I'd actually work with other than HR would see my expenses and they're allowing us to expense up to $1,500 in travel expenses. Can I fly first class without looking like an idiot? I don't think anyone on my desk other than HR would see the flight expense. Is it assumed for employees to attempt to comp the lowest amount of expenses? The difference between 1st class and economy is $300 and well below the $1,500 flight limit.
