Day in life of an accountant?

I'm an accounting major, a freshman, and would just like to know from a personal view what a day in life is of an accountant. Probably different for everyone but I'm just interested. Thank you!

I'm at a very small accounting firm in Australia, so take it with a grain of salt

8.00 am get in, check which jobs are priorities for the day, reply to any emails (usually about where things are up to)

8.15 start working my way through the priority list. Because I'm at a small accounting firm that specialises in tax most of my work is individual returns, business activity statements, company returns, we do more than that but those take up the majority of my time

9-9.30 call or email clients to get missing information on the jobs I'm working on (this happens with what feels like 90% of the jobs but is probably closer to 60%)

12.30-1 lunch

1-6 pm keep working through priority list (if it is around the end of a quarter of financial year this is more like 8-10 pm)

The most time consuming work (and the dullest) is bookkeeping, I've had jobs that take up to 2 weeks just to get all the information entered. Other than that the work isn't too bad

I'm from a whole family of accountants. Accounting is what you make of it. There are accountants and then there are business owners and partners. If you have an extroverted personality and a solid mind and understanding of the essentials you can build a business or become a partner at a firm where your day-in-the-life-of will be totally different than that of a typical accountant.
