Decisions decisions - Investment analyst at local boutique
Hello WSO,
I wanted to get some opinions, maybe even some advice on an upcoming decision I’ll need to make.
Last time I posted, I was an investment analyst at a local boutique in town. From the get go, I hated it and didn’t find it helping me reach my end goal of investment banking. After about 4 months into the gig, I decided to leave (on good terms) with nothing as a backup. Granted, this was probably the worst decision I’ve ever made. On the other hand, leaving gave me some time to reassess and change my approach to getting a banking job. A few months went by and wasn’t making any traction with my networking and took a full time job running a family business. During this time I applied to graduate school and have been accepted to start this fall. Recently, I was given an offer for a financial analyst gig that would start in a couple of weeks. So now I have the decision to make of staying in the job for four months until school starts, then quit and become a full time student or I can keep the job longer and forgo my graduate studies. Keep in mind I am already 24 and I know age is an important factor in finance.
So my question is do I forgo graduate school and keep the job or start school this fall? Either way I am going to accept the position seeing as they pay much better than running my families store.
