I would start looking for roles elsewhere
Try to see how many fucks you can send before getting fired
I got the same warning in skype and my message was not even really profane lol
Lol. Did anyone say anything to you?
no, at least not yet haha it was at the beginning of this week or the end of last week.. but I don't think I'll have any problem
what do you mean "not really profane"
I don't remember the exact message that I sent, but I remember that I was very surprised to get the warning as the message was completely normal, without offensive language
I’ve gotten the same message. Many times tbh haha. It just blocked the message at my ex bank, nothing else happened. Probably some clown in compliance looks at it but I don’t even know if that’s the case.
Hahaha good to know. I saw the message and was like great I’m going to have to have a conversation with someone
Oh wow that's fucking lame. Time to go somewhere else dude.
For what it's worth (everyone shaking their first at censorship and correctness), this isn't an instance of someone at a bank deciding to go out of their way to lock down and monitor how their workforce communicates. It's a fairly benign setting in a list of options you're required to go through when you configure the enterprise version before deploying it to your userbase.
Trust me, not a single damn person is going to care about this. You aren't flagged anywhere, you're not on a list, the system generates a 'warning' simply in response to someone committing the act. Your boss does not know. Compliance does not know. HR does not know. Some low-level peon in IT somewhere may theoretically be able to see your name and instance in the batch of all names and instances. Guess what? Yours is one of four or five figures daily, so it's both impossible and impractical to single you out.
Moral of the story: don't panic, there will be no consequence.
If there is a lesson in here, it's to think about how you present at work. I'm profane, and fairly artfully so. I have learned the hard way that people may not say something directly, but can carry an impression of you that might reflect the less pretty data points you give them.
Is it fair? I don't know how to answer that. Does it happen? Absolutely; someone isn't considered 'partner material', doesn't get put on the best staffing that has the closest interaction with senior leadership at the client, doesn't get taken on the cool business trip, whatever. I've never been one of those people railing at how things are. I prefer to see the world as it is and adapt.
Basically, be mindful of where you curse. I have had to learn so.
Needed to hear this haha. I was thinking someone would track me and I was going to have to have a conversation or something. Thanks!
But APAE, how can I send funny memos to my coworkers over internal communications networks if I can't use profanityyyyyyyy :(
I just wanted to give a counterpoint from my BB. When an Associate (I believe) pasted a rap lyric with the "F" word in our company chat software, a Compliance person sent my colleague a message with our MD cc'ed. These automated systems sometimes are passed down to a human. Not sure if we just have a zero tolerance policy or extra careful about Company comms.
Yup. Relax.
"not a single fuck"
Did you open a ticket to get the system fixed to allow you to send such a message?
Thats probably the issue. I’ll submit a request Monday
I remember the first time I used profanity at work and started fearing for my job
Go on the next call to gas em up a bit and be like "they told me im not supposed to swear in here, but I just gotta say this is a great fucking company"
So, apparently the SEC found out a while back that there is a link between shady e-mails and profanity. So, if your firm is ever investigated by a regulatory agency, your communication using profanity will be flagged. I think that's really the only reason that anyone in compliance cares.
You’re good. It’s an autogenerated message. There might be some counting mechanism built in somewhere and lock you out after saying some stupid things like 50 times. My manager a couple years ago had their Skype locked for like an hour and had to call technology to unlock it because she abbreviating analysts as anals but even then it didn’t generate any emails to her manager
I can never understand why people abbreviate analyst as "anal". They have to see it, right? Been rewatching old Arrested Development episodes on Netflix recently. Reminds me of Tobias' license plate "ANUSTART" ("A New Start" vs "Anus Tart").
What really creeped me out was the first time I realized that IT really does have a running log of all your communications and activities. First time was years ago, a junior on my team quit, and I get a list of HR/IT showing me every document that he had transferred off of his computer (either to a USB or emailed to or from a personal email) over the last month to make sure that he hadn't taken any proprietary or confidential information. Up until that point, I thought those were always just threats but they couldn't really track that, and it was a given when you leave a job you take copies of some of your best material to leverage at your no shop. That was a pretty big wake up call to not fuck around with that type of stuff, and that they really can monitor everything you're doing on your work computer.
Nothing but don’t do it again
fucking snowflakes
