Derrick Rose or Jeremy Lin?

So I made this poll on my website (mostly as a joke about all the Lin love)...Who would you rather build an NBA franchise around - Derrick Rose or Jeremy Lin?

The obvious answer is Rose...but 50% of the answers so far have been for J-Lin. And dont get me wrong, I'm a huge Jeremy Lin fan. He was undrafted and comes from Harvard, a non-target for the NBA. So whats the deal? Who would you guys go with?

If the purpose of your franchise is to win, then pick D-Rose.

If the purpose of your franchise is to make money, then pick J-Lin.

For a mix of both, it could potentially be debated, but I would pick Rose without hesitation.

Some good points, and I agree about picking Rose without hesitation, but I don't think it can be debated. I know Lin has the Asian market working for him, but I don't know if he would add more value to an NBA franchise over the long haul than Rose.

Kill yourself for even asking this question. This is just like when I heard someone ask should Lin win the MVP. Fuck is wrong with people? While I believe what he is doing is amazing and he is incredibly talented, that's it. Until he wins LEADS the team to the playoffs or anything of the like..he is just a very good player.

Rant over.

Ummm....did you miss the part where I said it was a joke about all the love Lin was getting? Obviously its Rose. He's the MVP and a top 5 player in the league.

Knicks have played nobody over this past 5 game stretch (except for a currently slightly above average Lakers team), yet Lin is averaging 6 turnovers a game. He's also averaging 40.4 minutes per game over that same stretch. Neither stat bodes well for him/NY. The Knicks may end up sneaking into the playoffs by the end of the year, but they'll get crushed by Miami/Chicago/Philly.

Obv goes without saying that DRose is the real deal.

agree only teams with winning records were jazz n lakers. both of those have terrible pgs

spaceagecowboyCP3 is the best point guard son. Forget D Rose or Lin.

Can someone be overrated and very good at the same time? CP3 is very good but all but people act like he is Magic 2.0. He's got two banged up knees and realistically, how much longer is he going to last? I'm confident saying he ain't winning shit with the Clippers.

Derrick Rose is fantastic. Much better then CP3. Check the Clips-Bulls game this season. Rose went off for 29 and 16. Against a supposed elite defensive guard too. Sorry to say but CP3, much like Blake Griffin, is very good but overrated.

You must not understand the idea of a pure point guard.... Rose is a scorer who passes second and the 29-16...doesn't happen that often..

I like Jeremy Lin, definitely what this season needed after the lackluster play and all these injuries but definite flaws in his game. Too much leeway with the dribble and he's racking up these turnovers. He's averaging 6 a game in 6 starts. Like some of his plays for Amare against the Raps though. Should be a good tandem, but Jeremy Lin isnt even an All Star calibre player yet. Definitely interested in following his development as well as where he may end up next season. He's a free agent, can the Knicks afford him?

aempireiCan we please not use the terms "target" and "non-target" to discuss the NBA.

Targets MIA LA CHI OKC NY

Non-targets (ew) New Orleans Detroit Sacramento Milwaukee

Omission: extreme non-target - Bobcats

On his turnovers: All fair points, just remember that (a) he's basically a rookie, (b) he went from not getting any real run for nearly 21 months to playing 38 minutes a game, (c) the Knicks were playing without their best two offensive weapons, which meant Lin had to be their sole creator, and (d) starting with the Lakers game, every opponent approached the Knicks by saying, "We need to stop Jeremy Lin to stop the Knicks." Once Carmelo comes back and Lin gets more comfortable, the turnovers will come down.

Anyone who says Lin doesn't understand statistical significance. Rose has been good for awhile and has a proven track record. Lin has played in less than 10 games for any meaningful length of time.

Exactly. Plus all this talk about the system is bullshit really. How many PG's has D'Antoni tried?

Do you plagiarize Bill Simmons on your other posts too? If you're gonna post an entire paragraph at least give the dude credit. Here, I'll do it for you. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7579097/linsanity-bag

I'd rather have Lin on his current contract than D-Rose on his current contract.

That much is pretty fucking obvious though.

Jeremy Lin is a wonderful story. Undrafted, he awakened a moribund franchise in the Knicks that was not only playing poorly, but boring its fan base to tears. Lin's story is the equivalent of a college drop-out who didn't go to a target school who suddenly gets noticed and makes millions for Goldman Sachs.

Lin is no Derrick Rose, but the last time the Knicks played the Bulls, Lin blocked one of Rose's shots from behind after Rose had driven by him. J-Lin was not intimidated!

Let's hope Lin makes a full recovery from knee surgery and comes back to be the player he was--and more.
