Did Secret Service fail to do their job this past weekend?

It is hard for me to understand how Secret Service did not see a man laying on a roof with a gun. Did they fail to do their job? Given the transpiration of events, it seems like the assassin got a little too close to killing Trump.

Yeah, no shit. How do you let an armed guy get on a rooftop within 150 yards of the former President?

Multiple spectators noticed someone on the rooftop and notified authorities. The Secret Service sniper had his sight on the assassin for about three seconds and did nothing until the assassin started firing. Trump was never rushed off the stage when the assassin was noticed.

Complete and utter incompetence.

Yes. The roof was an obvious location to secure and after the shots they didn't move him fast enough. Reportedly, random ass people at the event even notified them over a minute before he started firing and there are plenty of interviews of people who saw him up there. They also didn't preemptively put a big ole gaudy Trump branded semi-truck in between the roof and the stage to break up the sight line. There are also reports that a local officer climbed up to the roof after being notified, saw the gunman, and climbed back down.

The Secret Service has taken some massive Ls over the past decade or so and needs to be audited. There is no way that guy should have been able to pull it off. It makes you wonder how much their presence is security theater, similar to TSA, versus actual security. It's all a bit frightening and needs to be corrected.

This level of incompetence is so odd to me. They could have just flown a drone around the area easy to do recon.

There are a lot of scenarios that I would be more forgiving about, where you could go "how is anyone supposed to stop that?" but good lord - securing the roof is about as basic as "checking under the stage for a big bomb."

There were reports being made to police 26 minutes before the shooting that the shooter was a suspicious person, even had pictures taken of him. Multiple calls were made to law enforcement. 2 minutes before the shooting there were groups of people literally screaming and pointing at the guy sitting prone on the rooftop with what looked to be a firearm. Snipers supposedly had the guy in their sights before he shot but there's claims circulating that they didn't have approval to shoot which is a blatant lie because snipers have cart blanche decision-making in these situations and do not need to wait for "permission" to take a shot at a potential threat in an unauthorized security area. The idea that not a single officer had the wherewithal to make the call to the stage security telling them to remove Trump is absurd. When a lone nutjob ran at the stage at one of his rallies in the past they had him removed and the threat neutralized immediately.

This whole thing reeks. There is no way this 20 y/o buffoon was acting alone. This was intentional negligence by someone at best, deliberately supported and orchestrated at worst. This was meant to be public, in front of supporters, days before the GOP convention. A message was being sent just like when JFK was killed in Dallas. We'll see what else comes up, but the current admin is hardly incentivized to be transparent about any findings regarding the shooter or lapse in security.

Yeah, the SS was so staggeringly incompetent that it's almost to a point where not believing it was a planned assassinated should make you a conspiracy theorist.

The timeline just keeps getting crazier. Shooter was noted as a suspicious person 3 hours before the shooting. An hour before the shooting he was spotted using a RANGEFINDER on the stage Trump would be speaking at. It turns out the building he was posted on literally had a counter sniper security team inside it on the 2nd floor. And he was confronted BY AN OFFICER just prior to the shooting who had seen him on the roof, who then fled because he pointed his gun at them. Yet still no calls were made, Trump was not alerted to any danger or pulled off the stage. Neither the head of the USSS or anyone up the chain of command has taken responsibility, been fired, or resigned. There is no way on earth this was not an inside job, the only question is how many people were involved and to what degree. This many things cannot simultaneously go wrong coincidentally.

The Biden administration NEVER fires people for gross incompetence. Secret Service, Transportation, Immigration, Afghanistan. And I'm sure the list goes on and on.

Yeah, having all of those women on detail was insane. One woman was standing in front of Trump to shield him from a bullet (good for her, btw--that takes serious courage), but Trump is 2 heads taller than her, leaving his chest and head exposed. This bizarre, deranged, left-wing idea that women and men are the same is simply unhinged and totally detached from reality. We AREN'T the same, and that's what makes us great together. What kind of a sick, twisted, evil culture employs women to stand in front of men to take bullets? Not how a civilized society should behave.
