Disastrous Friendly Fire Event in Pakistan Could Grind the U.S. Afghan Campaign to a Halt

NATO recently literally shot itself in the foot, imperiling the resupply of International Assistance Forces (ISAF) in Afghanistan by shooting up two Pakistani border posts in a “hot pursuit’ raid.

Given that roughly 100 fuel tanker trucks along with 200 other trucks loaded with NATO supplies cross into Afghanistan each day from Pakistan, Pakistan’s closure of the border has ominous long-term consequences for the logistical resupply of ISAF forces, even as Pentagon officials downplay the issue and scramble for alternative resupply routes.

Pakistan, long angry about ISAF/NATO cross border raids, has apparently reached the end of its tether. Following the 26 November NATO aerial assault on two border posts in Mohmand Agency in Pakistan’s turbulent NorthWest Frontier Province, Islamabad promptly sealed its border with Afghanistan to NATO supplies after the allied strikes killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

...is still failing to deal with the jihadist shit that they've been feeding for thirty years. The second that the incompetent and corrupt leaders of Pakistan run out of external enemies (the US, India, China, NATO, Russia, etc...) to blame everything on, they will be eaten alive by the golem they created.

Or just maybe they will start dealing with their shit.

Get busy living

Unfortunately, Pakistan has NATO and, by extension, the US, by the balls here. Close to 50% of the supplies going to NATO forces has to come through Pakistan. They've been pissy since May when we came in, Call of Duty style, and whacked Osama and caught the entire Pakistani military with their pants around their ankles. This incident provides a legitimate excuse to seriously twist the nails on US efforts in Afghanistan and allows the Generals to save face. Pakistan has spent the last few years building very warm ties in China, which as a fellow autocratic regime and developing nation, is a much more co-minded ally.

If Pakistan doesn't let supplies into Afghanistan, NATO efforts there are screwed.
