Dislike academic finance classes

As the title suggests, does anybody feel that academic finance classes are not very interesting? The ones I have taken so far, cover material that is extremely basic or just too theoretical it seems to be of any use. I'd say your probably better off reading a couple books on your own or enrolling in an online class like Train the Street instead of academic classes. What are some ways these academic classes could be improved?
