Do you care whether alumni and others reject your Linkedin requests?

Assuming these are people you have at least spoken to on the phone or they somewhat know who you are, do you care whether your linkedin requests are rejected?

How about after joining the same company as one of the alumni who did this or ignored you and it's a bit of an awkward situation. Do you hold anything against them?

I usually request after I do a networking call/informational interview/whatever you want to call it, and get like 70% acceptance. One of my contacts is guaranteeing me a first-round interview and we're staying in contact via email, but he hasn't accepted my LinkedIn request... I'd say it varies person to person and isn't indicative of how a call went or what they think of me.

You get bent out of shape when a grown man doesn't check his linkedin often enough to accept your invite? Are you serious?

Yeah, seriously wtf? It's only LinkedIn. It's not like you poked him on Facebook and he never poked you back. What a drama queen.

While I did try to give a useful response, I share your sentiment and appreciate these comments.

They most likely gathered their peers around and laughed at your profile line by line. If you are fortunate enough to overcome this and work at their firm, never look them in the eyes. They most likely hate you, and will do anything in their power to see you fail.

Are you the type of person to put "MBA" at the end of your name? Like "John Doe, MBA"? I always reject those.

I never accept LinkedIn requests from earnest kids clearly seeking a job who will send me an earnest message about how they'd earnestly like to speak with me. Think of it as the importance of not being earnest.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

"We have never met. We have never worked together. You are quite young and green on how business connections work with senior professionals. Apparently you have heard that I produce a Job Bank, and decided it would be stunningly helpful for your career prospects if I shared my 960+ LinkedIn connections with you -- a total stranger who has nothing to offer me.

Your invite to connect is inappropriate, beneficial only to you and tacky. Wow, I cannot wait to let every 26 year old mine my top-tier marketing connections to help them land a job.

I love the sense of entitlement in your generation. And therefore I enjoy Denying your invite and giving you the dreaded "I don't know Diana," because it's the truth.

Oh, and about your request to actually receive my Job Bank along with the 7,300 other subscribers to my service? That's denied, too.

I suggest you join the other Job Bank in town. Oh wait - there isn't one.

You're welcome to your humility lesson for the year. Don't ever reach out to senior practitioners again and assume their carefully curated list of connections is available to you, just because you want to build your network.

Don't ever write me again."
