Does Anyone Compete Athletically?

I'm hoping to start training for a cycling race in the spring and wondered if anyone else does any sort of competition. Careers in finance obviously aren't the most hobby accommodating (I guess I shouldn't complain since I'm in AM), so finding multiple times a week to put in 100 miles on a bike seems extremely difficult. Is anyone successfully training and competing with a finance career schedule?

What kind of race? I used to ride a lot, and spent some time training with Cat 5-4 racers. I also swam D-1 in college.

I'm gonna come back and finish this in a little....AND I"M BACK.

For the most part most rides will not be over 40 miles. You should spend your weekend training on LSD(Long Slow Distance), but on the week days HIIT is the way to go. How you go about doing this is Hill Sprints. You can do several sprints in 30 minutes and get the same cardiovascular result as most people who just ride for an hour everyday leisurely. You will need to train distance at some point, but if you are strapped for time....then hill sprints are great, up and down and round and around.

I don't imagine you well get good until 1-year. So Time Trialing is fine and it does take experience to ride in a peloton and you shouldnt try until you can hit 25mph for 10 minute stretches at a time(cause everyone spends time at the front)

Depends on how you define "compete." I play Sunday league soccer and golf. It's not particularly serious though.
