Does anyone else suck at dancing

I grew up pretty introverted and people would try to force me but just never got in to it. Afraid of making a fool of myself when going out or at parties and I hate it, wish I could enjoy it. Anyone have tips? Only way for me to do anything is to be plastered

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips to help you overcome your fear of dancing and enjoy social events more:

  1. Get Out of Your Comfort Zone: Make a conscious effort to do things that scare you a little bit. Start slow and gradually push your boundaries.

  2. Practice in Low-Stakes Environments: Join groups, clubs, or meetups where you can practice your interpersonal skills without the fear of judgment. This can help you get more comfortable with yourself and reduce social anxiety.

  3. Engage in Conversations: When at social events, try to engage in conversations. Ask questions and show genuine interest in others. This can help you feel more connected and less focused on your dancing skills.

  4. Act Relaxed and Have Fun: Don’t take yourself too seriously. Laugh at jokes, nod in conversations, and make engaging hand gestures. Having a beverage next to you can also help you feel more relaxed.

  5. Improve Self-Confidence: Working on your self-esteem can make a big difference. Hit the gym, eat right, and take care of your overall well-being to boost your confidence.

  6. Attend Office Happy Hours: Go to every office happy hour you can. This will give you more opportunities to practice socializing in a relaxed environment.

  7. Own Your Inexperience: Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Embrace your inexperience and use it as a learning opportunity.

Remember, the key is to get comfortable with yourself and not be afraid of making mistakes. Everyone starts somewhere, and the more you practice, the better you’ll get.

I took lessons privately when I dated a girl that was really into two step and would drag me out every weekend. We broke up but girls love it when I can swing them… it was easily worth it.

All you need is a simple two step. You could watch a 5 minute Youtube video, practice it alone in your bedroom for a few days, and get to a point where you're comfortable.

Also, you could just own it and become the "idk how to dance, but I'm having fun and will do it anyway" guy. I did this in college and after a few months I naturally got better b/c of all the "practice" lol.

"I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse."

Yes.   Has not affected my life very much.  I don't dance with my colleagues, especially not the opposite gender ones.  Every time I've seen dancing at a corporate party it has been a disaster, so I see no upside to learning.

Take lessons if you are going to have dancing at your wedding and you have to do a first dance.  Otherwise, consider this a skill that you can safely ignore.
