This subject has been talked about ad nauseum on this forum. No one will force you to drink, and if they judge you for it they probably aren't people you want to be working with anyways. Still go out to team happy hours, just drink a club soda or water. No one will care.

This guy is "Other - Other" - meaning he is probably leading a useless life, doing nothing as there is no category for it...

Agreed. Not overly religious myself, but America without Judeo-Christian values will just turn into a communist shithole (and it's well on its way, but w/e). Without religion, a moral standard doesn't exist. Who's to say that murder or rape is wrong?

title says it pretty much. I  don't drink because i cant (religion) i don't even go to bars but love people, soo how do i socialize.

God, you're even worse than those self-righteous vegetarians who loudly judge others for 'killing animals' by eating meat.

Nobody's going to tie you down and pour vodka or shove pork down your throat.

You have a very simple option if you don't think you should drink: Then don't drink.

Telling other people that common practices insult you is just going to piss people off. Imagine if someone told you that an item of your religious clothing should be banned since they were uncomfortable with it. Doesn't feel good, huh?

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

vegetarians/vegans don't comment on it because it "insults them," they do it because of the ethical implications. I don't see how that's similar whatsover. Also, how is OP being self-righteous? Simply asked a fair question about how not drinking affects their social standing and relationships. To be fair, it can be a big part of certain group cultures. When'd they say it should be banned or that it insults them? Lol

That being said, @OP I don't think you have much to worry about. Just don't make a big deal out of it when you go out, order something else and fit in in other ways and you'll be good

Not really. The title implies “(you) don’t drink” as if you’re telling me not to drink.

You’re already coming off negatively. Why are you telling me not to do something?

The "drinking" aspect of banking is over emphasized, many times through movies/TV, and internet forums. We socialize a lot in our groups, sometimes /w clients. Nobody tracks anyone who isn't drinking. Many are fathers/mothers and have a family, they don't get trashed every night at the office because they probably have a 1 hour commute ahead of them.

There are also many legal reasons why you can't drink. You can't be a drinker when you are driving a car home, when operating any machinery, when carrying a weapon, and it is also not safe to be completely drunk when on public transport (you could slip/fall, ..). A lot of us are carrying weapons, so nobody in that large group would legally be allowed to drink. In fact, many states prohibit even carrying a weapon and be on premises that serve alcohol.

Convert to Catholicism. You get to have extreme guilt, drink like a sailor, and talk shit about all other religions. It’s great.
