Down Goes Frazier - Champ Dies at 67

I know we have a lot of fight fans on WSO, and today we've lost one of the greats - maybe the greatest of all time. Smokin' Joe Frazier succumbed to liver cancer at age 67. During his career, he racked up an amazing 32-4 record, with all four losses to either Muhammed Ali or George Foreman. I will always remember him for the class act that he was his whole life.

After taking Ali into his own home and putting a roof over his head when Ali was banned from boxing for dodging the draft, Ali turned around and bit the hand that fed him by insulting Frazier repeatedly. Frazier never said a word, he just let his fists do the talking. His fights with Ali will be remembered as some of the best ever. Rest in peace, champ.

A true gentleman and a scholar of the sweet science.

He should have been a role model for the generation which fucked itself and America while choosing style over substance. Naturally, he was portrayed as a villain and a thug, while being everything but.

He went out the same way that he lived: quietly, with dignity and honor.

Next to Marvin Hagler the greatest fighter I ever saw.

Both were out shined by lesser men and lesser fighters in Cassius Clay and Ray Leonard.

May God rest his soul, we will never see anyone like Smokin' Joe again.
