Drinking from a straw in IB
Is it correct to drink from a straw in the offices? I have heard that it is very poorly regarded, especially if it’s from one of these gay bamboo straws they are now selling us in Europe.

I'll assume this is a serious question. Straws are not even a twentieth of a percent of the plastic waste in our oceans - the majority is from fishing nets, so if you care then reduce/eliminate your seafood consumption, but nobody cares if you're drinking from a plastic straw.
But straws are a low hanging fruit. You can easily use thick paper ones or reusable metal/glass ones. Very simple fix to a problem. It may not be a huge issue, but it still is one.

Even if every single person suddenly stopped using plastic straws, we'd be looking at eliminating literally somewhere around .025% of all plastic waste in the ocean. That's hardly a "fix" to the problem. Fishing nets are estimated to be an upwards of 45% (at least) of ocean pollution. Using paper or reusable metal straws is fine (and I do wherever possible) but it's never going to fix anything and most people who do it are either just virtue signaling or falsely convincing themselves that they're making a difference in my opinion. Like I said, if you care then reduce or eliminate your seafood consumption. It's really not as hard as you might think
Also, it makes you feel really good about yourself while not having to do anything different in your life which is the primary benefit here.
