Dropped racial slur during a client meeting

Analyst 3 here and forgot to turn off my street talk (sleep deprived….). Call went quiet for 5 seconds but I’m WFH and haven’t gotten an email / call yet. How fucked am I? For those wondering it was what you’d call a homie rather than the literal racial slur

I drop it a lot with friends because I grew up around it. Basically was explaining a piece of analysis to a VP Corp Dev in front of my entire deal team and said “that ____ there” when referring to a table on a slide.

Controversial

Not a valid excuse. Growing up around a certain group of people doesn’t excuse such behavior.

You referred to a slide table as the n word 😂? I have never heard the n word be used to personify an inanimate object. Doesn’t even make sense. Idc where or how you grew up, take that word out of your vocabulary.

One day, ur gonna say it in front of the wrong person and get fired and blacklisted or get your jaw rocked. All because you want to talk like an ignorant little kid. If you get lucky and this passes with no issues, take it as a lesson.

Are you Asian as in East Asian or South Asian, cuz if you’re the latter you MIGHT be ok if you can pass for black. I know a bunch of South Asians (Tamils specifically) who are darker than most black people.

This has to be a joke?

I wonder if there’s any way you can play totally ignorant and feign complete ignorance and play it off as a similar sounding word to what you said.

Still not sure what would even cross your mind to even blurt that out.

This is either a troll post or OP is mentally subnormal.

my recommendation will be to hang tight and prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

like someone said, you're screwed if someone calls you out and reports it, but it's out of your control for now.

I've heard inappropriate comments/jokes, but if the people on the call are chill, nothing will happen and they'll just let it pass and pretend it didn't happen.

While I don't agree with anyone (including black people like me) but especially you, an Asian, using the N word, I'll bite. If you're Chinese or can convince someone you speak Chinese, pretty sure there is a word in Chinese which is a filler word that sounds a lot like the N word to untrained ears. Idk how it's spelt or anything so Google it. You can use this to feign tiredness.

Otherwise, pray.

In Chinese, the term nei ge or na ge literally means “that” or “that one,” and is widely used in daily speech. It also acts as a filler word during pauses, similar to the English words “um” or “like.”

If you are asian then just double down, say you didnt say any slur at all but used another word instead and with your broken english it was misinterpetted as a slur, and then call an attorney and threaten to sue over discrimination (ethnicity/accent whatever) if anything happens.

Do the above and report back

Y’all do everything but take accountability. Threatening to sue a company for a slur that you said is so strange and it shows your entitlement and privilege.

WolfofWSO - Did this ever happen?

Was on said call. No. Never Happened!

I was on a teams call with an Asian chick who wrote “Cum” instead of “Come” in the chat. Call went silent for a second and then it vanished.

Relax bro, I greet my colleagues with the gamer word all the time, 's all cool. Just remember to reply your MD as "Yissuh, Mr. Bossman, suh" and always order Popeye's for expensed dinners, then everyone will be cool with it.

...and the Truth shall set you free

I don’t want to get your hopes up, but I kinda think you’re fine because it’s such an odd usage that each individual on the call might think they misheard. I know I would. And if you think you misheard, you probably aren’t  calling others to ask if they heard the n-word.
