Electric Zoo shut down

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/agony_of_ecstasy_at_killer…

Somebody was quoted in the bottom of that saying something along the lines of, "you took too many drugs and died, not my problem." I agree with that wholeheartedly. You take a risk when you take illegal drugs. Are drugs bad? Most of them aren't, but if you're an idiot about it, it's gonna bite you in the ass.

Sorry for all you folks looking forward to it

Yah. Someone took like 6 hits of Molly and died. You run the risk of exposing some latent health issue or getting bad shit. Real sad though. I'm sure there were some real pissed off ticket holders.

Was there Saturday and was possibly looking to buy a Sunday ticket when I heard the news. Honestly, there was way too many people. A second main stage should have never been added. Plus, security was a joke. For an 18+ event, I saw an incredible amount of underage kids using fake IDs to get into the place not to mention the lax enforcement of the checking of backpacks.

Yes. It is unfortunate what occurred, but maybe it's what the scene needed. I feel people are jumping on the bandwagon because it's the "cool, hip" thing to be in now. Always a few who ruin it for the many.

Side note: I've heard you cannot overdose from Molly. The way I interpreted it was Molly is pure MDMA which comes in various forms. However, most people consume it in powder form thus increasing the risks of dealers cutting it with other substances (coke, meth, etc). I'm assuming that's what happened to the two or the side effects was what did the damage (dehydration, accelerated heartbeat). Maybe someone can shed some light on this.

This all depends on the person. She said she took 6 hits (.6 mg), which is a lot, but I've seen people do that much before and be just fine. Pure MDMA absolutely can kill you, it doesn't need to be cut with anything though that definitely could contribute to this happening. Also, she thought she took 6 hits of Molly. What are the chances she took more or something else too?

Drug culture is stupid. People don't know what they're doing, they don't know what the drugs do besides how it makes them feel. Darwinism is alive and well.

This is basically correct. Ecstasy, while a mind altering substance, is very difficult to OD on unless you take like a mountain of those at a time. The people who OD invariably mixed the pure substance with other weird stuffs. I wonder where did the victims procure their substance from, presumably some unscrupulous dealers.

In light of these incidents, it would be interesting to see what the future beholds for Electric Zoo. Chance is next year's events will be much more subdued with a lot more restrictions and security details--that is assuming they don't cancel the events altogether until further notice.

Also these two deaths, along with the girl who died in Boston, will probably bring about wide spread attention and major backlash against MDMA. Few things cause as much public outrage as pretty, photogenic blonde girls who have their life stolen by the "evil illegal drugs".

Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep.

That's total bullshit. MDMA is very easy to OD on via overheating, dehydration, heart attack, brain aneurysm, etc.

Very few people can get pure MDMA. It looks like darkish white rice stuck together that you can crush up.

Why people started calling ecstasy Molly and putting it in a powder, I do not know. I hear E in the '80s was pretty fly though.

Jesus I feel like you guys have never seen drugs in your life. No one calls it "hits" of molly.

The problem with powder substances is the abundant amount of new "research chemicals" coming out which are completely not molly, and even more commonly these research chemicals mimic acid. Most Molly mimicers are like.... Methalone, butalone, etc... they are basically Ecstacy meets speed/meth. Many consumers just look for white crystals and there friends nod at them and go "ITS THE BOMB" but they dont take the time to get a test kit to see what it is.

The problem is many of these untested chemicals have unknown short/long term effects. Some people take too much, and stuff like that happens.

However I find it strange that they shutdown the entire event.

In a gathering of over 110k people.. someone had to die.

Someone dies every huge event.. be it EDC las vegas or Burning man.

I've never called it "hits" of Molly, doesn't mean I don't know what it is.
